Narrative

On 8/6/2024 at 2:00 PM a/an Flash Flood Emergency event began to impact New York City. Event related weather hazards were felt in the Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. The event lasted until 8/7/2024 at 12:00 PM. A Flood Watch was in effect citywide, with 1–2 inches of rainfall and localized totals up to 5 inches at rates as high as 3 inches per hour. The heaviest rainfall occurred overnight on August 6, causing flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. NYC Emergency Management activated the Flash Flood Emergency Plan and coordinated with city and state agencies to monitor flood-prone locations and mitigate transportation and infrastructure impacts.
