Narrative
On 7/9/2023 at 2:00 PM a/an Severe Weather Emergency began to impact New York City. Event related weather hazards, such as Heavy Rainfall, Flash Flooding, and Thunderstorms, were felt in Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. The event lasted until 7/10/2023 at 6:00 AM AM. Amtrak service between Albany and New York City was temporarily suspended due to severe weather conditions. Nearly 400 flights were canceled at Newark Liberty International Airport. At John F. Kennedy International Airport, there were more than 300 cancelations, and there were 500 cancelations at LaGuardia Airport. During this event, the maximum reported heat index was 83° F.
