Event Summary

A five-alarm fire in an apartment complex in the Bronx, started by a malfunctioning portable electric heater, killed 19 people (including 9 children) and left dozens injured on January 9th, 2022. The volume of smoke caused by the fire is suspected reason for many of the deaths. Firefighters on the scene managed to contain the flames around 1pm on January 9th.
