Narrative

Dr. Miller, Resident Physician of the Governor: "The commencement of the disease took place, about the 20th of July, and from that time, it continued to prevail, in a greater or less degree till the end of October. The number of deaths, in this city, amounted to five hundred and three; those at the Hospital of Bellevue, to one hundred and three, and those at the Marine Hospital on Staten Island, to sixty-eight, making a total of six hundred and seventy-four. To this should be added, an indefinite number, about fifty or sixty, who fled from the city, and died of this disease, in the neighbouring country and villages."
