Event Summary

Narrative

As a low pressure system developed rapidly off the Virginia Coast and moved northeast, it produced heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms. High winds associated with thunderstorms downed trees and electrical cables in Grymes Hills, Midland Beach and South Beach in Staten Island. They also caused a brick facade to blow off from a building in Lower Manhattan. Unfortunately, the bricks fell on a woman passing in front of the building and killed her. Peak wind gusts of 51 mph were measured at both Central Park and LaGuardia Airport. Rainfall amounts generally ranged from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches.
