Event Summary
Narrative
Strong thunderstorms during late morning and again from late afternoon through early evening produced torrential rain that caused widespread flash flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas, small streams, and rivers. Cars were trapped in flooding on the Long Island Expressway in Queens and the Northern State Parkway in Nassau Counties. In Rockland County, torrential rains forced the Mahwah River over its banks flooding parts of the New York State Thruway near Suffern. Serious road flooding was also reported along Richmond Parkway in Staten Island. At around 6:00 pm EST, lightning set a roof on fire in New Rochelle in Southern Westchester County. No injuries or deaths were reported.
