Event Summary

Narrative

Severe weather developed across the area in response to a cold front moving into very unstable air. Numerous trees and power lines were downed by strong winds. Hail was observed at serveral locations but no damage was reported. Torrential rain also caused some flooding problems in Northport as Main Street turned quickly into a rushing stream. Lighting was also quite intense with this system as several homes were substantially damaged after being struck. At the Bethpage Golf Course, a golfer was injured by a nearby lighting strike and in Mahopac, a man was struck as he mowed his lawn.
