Narrative

One of the deadliest and most destructive hurricanes to make landfall near New York City. The Eye crossed over Long Island, giving the storm its nickname. The storm killed 200 to 300 people, including 10 in New York City. Electricity was knocked out north of 59th Street in Manhattan. 100 large trees in Central Park were destroyed. Shinnecock Inlet on Long Island was created.
