Narrative

A strong low pressure system over the Southern Appalachians early Tuesday moved slowly east-northeast off the DELMARVA Coast early Wednesday. It produced high winds across the area. Although winds gusted from 50 to 60 MPH across most areas, the highest wind gust measured was 79 MPH at Fire Island. High winds downed numerous trees and power lines. The roof of the Cedarhurst Post Office in Nassau County was blown off.
