Event Summary

A very humid air mass combined with a passing surface trough to trigger numerous showers and thunderstorms, with embedded strong to severe thunderstorms. Some of these storms produced very heavy rain which led to isolated flash flooding in the Bronx. Two people were injured when lightning struck a tree they were standing underneath at Orchard Beach. They were rushed to a local hospital. A third man was also struck but was unharmed. All lanes were blocked due to flooding on Interstate 87 at exit 8 (179th Street) in the Bronx.
