Event Summary

The combination of an upper level short wave and a surface trough triggered scattered showers and thunderstorms across the area. Some thunderstorms produced very heavy rainfall that resulted in localized flash flooding in Queens. The Grand Central Pkwy eastbound was closed at the Kew Gardens Interchange due to flooding. The Long Island Expressway at Francis Lewis Blvd. and the Van Wyck Expressway southbound at Hillside Ave. were both closed due to flooding.
