Event Summary

As a cold front approached, south winds increased across the region. Strong rip currents caused the death of one 10 year old girl at Coney Island Beach and the death of one 29 year old man in Long Beach. At Coney Island Beach, lifeguards responded, saved a 10 year old boy, but, were unable to save the 10 year old girl. In Long Beach, a 29 year old man was spotted struggling about 150 feet from shore. Off duty lifeguards rushed to the beach and reached the victim within minutes. However, he was unconscious and rescuers were unable to revive him.
